Challengecamp

Our summer camp takes place on the grounds of College Champittet, a proud representative of swiss private schools based in Lausanne, on the shore of Lake Léman.

Olympic capital, academic and research hub, centre of multinationals and international trade, town of culture, Lausanne is at the crossroads of Europe, open and cosmopolite. The beauty and serenity of the Léman region has always attracted people from around the world. The country's stability, values of mutual respect and multiculturalism are unparalleled elsewhere.

It is in this exceptional environment that we welcome, each summer since 1993, more than eighty boys and girls from 11 to 16 years old, who join us to learn French and English and enjoy unforgettable moments with other students of all nationalities and cultures.

Highly qualified professionals with many years of experience ensure quality language classes. During activities and outings, students are cared for by a team of young dynamic and enthusiastic camp counsellors.

Languages and culture

Language Classes

Mastering several languages is essential today, whatever you might do in life. Knowing how to communicate is a skill we want to teach.

Language classes take place in the morning. French and English are taught to small groups of students. Qualified and experienced teachers guarantee a personalized follow-up and offer dynamic and varied classes. Groups of approx. 10 students are organised according to age and level. Focus is on oral comprehension and expression, according to the level of each student.

Entrance and end of camp tests assess one's achieved progress during the stay. At the end of the camp a certificate is delivered to each student, indicating the level according to the global scale of the European Council.

Cultural Activities

All activities are integrated in the language programme of the camp. The challenge is not only to be able to follow a full presentation of a typical swiss cultural place, but also to communicate learnings, write a report and interact in the language studied in the morning.

Financial conditions

Enrolment fee

Upon reception of the completed registration form and once the Challengecamp Director has informed the parents of his decision to accept the child, an enrolment fee of CHF 500.- is due for each child. This will not be refunded should the enrolment be cancelled. This payment covers the admission fees. This amount must be paid within 10 days. The registration is only confirmed once the total amount is credited to our bank account.

Summer camp fees :

The Challengecamp costs CHF 3'800.- for a two weeks camp and CHF 6'900 for four weeks. This amount includes the compulsory illness and accidents insurance and infirmary expenses as well as pocket money. This amount must be paid within 10 days. The registration is only confirmed once the total amount is credited to our bank account.

Illness and accidents insurance, infirmary expenses
Insurance for illness and accidents is compulsory for all the students except those of Swiss nationality whose parents are resident in Switzerland. In this case, a copy of the insurance policy must be sent with the registration form. The cost is CHF 250.-
Pocket Money
Students receive CHF 150.- pocket money throughout per week. Pocket money that has not been retrieved during the camp will be returned in cash upon the student's departure. As long as the total amount of the camp invoice is not credited to our bank account, Collège Champittet will refuse the student any advance of pocket money.

The cost of the camp includes :

Accommodation with 2 or 3 beds per room
All meals
Bed linen and bath towels
Laundry service (no dry cleaning)
Language classes in groups
All activities organised by Champittet
Local taxes
Transport to and from Geneva airport, but only on the official days of arrival and departure. Outside of these dates, transport will cost CHF 250.- + taxes.

The costs do not include

the enrolment fee
Medical care not covered by the health insurance
Personal expenses (telephone, stamps, fax…)
Special shuttles

Any additional cost will be billed separately and can be deducted from the pocket money.

Cancellation

In case of cancellation until May 31st, 2010, Collège Champittet retains the enrolment fee. Beyond this deadline, the total amount is due. No refund is made for a shortened stay, missed activities or classes, withdrawal or dismissal during the camp.

Camp Charter

Collège Champittet requests that the parents take serious note of the following :

The Challengecamp is a smoke, alcohol and, drug free camp. Students caught buying, detaining or consuming any of these will be immediately expelled from the camp.

All students sign the Champittet Summer Camp Charter at the beginning of their stay. Disrespect to the Charter can lead to expulsion from the camp. In such case, the parents are obliged to take immediate steps to arrange for the withdrawal of their child from the school and his/her return home.

Collège Champittet claims no responsibility for loss or theft of personal items ; all extra money held by the students should be handed in to the direction for safe keeping. Valuables are forbidden.

Parents are financially responsible for any damage caused by their children.

By registering a child, parents accept all the above conditions.

Visas

Parents must make sure that passports are valid and the student has a visa for Switzerland for the whole duration of the camp.

UM service

Parents make sure that all costs related to the UM service provided by the airline company are covered prior to the arrival of the child at Champittet, for both incoming and outgoing flights.

In case of litigation, the competent Tribunal is in Lausanne.

Pratical informations

The geographical location of Collège Champittet ensures optimal road, train or air connections : it is very well served by public transport (train and bus). The Geneva International Airport is only 55km away.

Access by public transport

It takes only 50min to reach Lausanne from Geneva International Airport by train (one way ticket 1st class CHF 40.- / 2nd class CHF 24.-)

At Lausanne train station, take bus °1 going to Blécherette and step down at bus stop Georgette.
Then take bus °4 going to Pully-CFF, and step down at bus stop Pierraz-Portay.
A few meters further from the bus stop walk down Chemin de Chamblandes and Chemin de Champittet towards the school, indicated on your right.

There are also taxis in front of the train station. The taxi ride to Champittet costs approximately CHF 20.-

Access by car, from Martigny or Fribourg

Highway exit n°12 Lutry / Belmont
Follow direction Lutry.
Turn right towards Lausanne / Ouchy on the Route de Lavaux. Keep going straight for about 2.5 km.
On Avenue Général Guisan, 200m before the junction to Ouchy - Lausanne-Centre, turn right on Chemin du Manoir, near the TetraPak building. The alley joins Chemin de Champittet. The entrance of the Collège is on the right hand side when driving down.

Access by car, from Geneva or Neuchâtel

Highway exit n°17, Lausanne-Sud.
Turn right at the roundabout of La Maladière, towards Ouchy, on Avenue de Rhodanie.
At the intersection on Place de la Navigation, turn right towards Quai d'Ouchy.
Continue until the intersection with Avenue Général Guisan.
Turn right and shortly after turn left on Chemin du Manoir. The alley joins Chemin de Champittet. The entrance of the Collège is on the right hand side when driving down.

Free parking space is available in front of the Collège.
